If swallowed, induce vomiting (only if patient is conscious).
Guide to physician
The principal manifestation of poisoning with this product could be methaemoglobinaemia.
Treatment:
- Maintain an adequate airway.
- If swallowed, 200 ml of liquid paraffin should be adminstered first, followed by gastric lavage with approx. 4l water and terminated with charcoal and sodium sulphate.
- Administer: Toloniumchloride (Toluidin blue) 300 mg i.v. or Methylene blue (1% solution) 1-2 mg/kg body weight i.v.
Contraindication: Castor oil, milk, alcohol.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Afalon is a selective herbicide with both contact and residual action. Emerged weeds are killed by contact and translocating action, and emerging weeds by a residual action in the soil which persists for several weeks.
Potatoes
Tubers should be planted in a well prepared seedbed which contains as few clods as possible. Afalon Liquid may be applied after planting but before the crop has emerged. When grass and broadleaved weeds have emerged, Afalon Liquid may be applied with a contact herbicide for contact and residual weed control (refer to the section on Compatibility for information).

* Before spraying very light soil consult your distributor.
** Fen and Peat soils: Residual action on these soils is less reliable than on mineral soils. Apply post weed emergence in the seedling stage but before crop emergence. Susceptible emerged weeds will be controlled (see weed control paragraph).
Note: The lower dose may be used on the lighter soils in each soil category, where the more susceptible weeds occur or when weather conditions for crop growth and soil action are favourable.
Carrots, parsley (outdoor field only) and parsnips
Seeds should be drilled into a fine seed-bed at an even depth of not less than 1.25 cm. For optimum results two applications of Afalon Liquid may be necessary to be applied to the crop. The first should be made after drilling the crop but before weed or crop emergence. A further application should be made as soon as weeds appear, providing the crop has reached the correct stage of growth.
Dosage
For carrots apply 2 applications at up to 1.0 l/ha or 1 application at up to 2.1 l/ha.
For parsley (outdoor field only) and parsnips apply only one application at up to 2.1 l/ha.
These rates of use should be amended depending on the soil type, please see the table below for details.

Following Crops
In the case of crop failure, deep ploughing should be undertaken before sowing the following crops can be drilled: maize, cereals, fennel and parsley. The following crops can be drilled after 2 months have elapsed: carrots, field beans and peas. For sensitive crops like lettuce and endive, the period between application and sowing should be at least 4 months.
In a normal crop rotation, no problems regarding succeeding crops are expected after application of Afalon Liquid.
Spraying instructions
Afalon Liquid should be applied in a volume of 300-500 litres of water per hectare (30-50 gallons per acre). Half fill the spray tank with water and add the required quantity of Afalon Liquid. Continue agitation during tilling and spraying. After spraying thoroughly wash out spray tank. Ensure that the sprayer is correctly calibrated and the boom height adjusted for complete even cover of the ground and, where applicable, the weeds. Avoid overlapping.
Compatibility
Consult Makhteshim Agan UK Ltd or your distributor for details on the products which may be tank mixed with Afalon Liquid.
